Cep Vineyards - Estate Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast (2021)
Sonoma Coast, California
About the wine
Cep Vineyards is Peay Vineyards second label. This is the bargain of the vintage; a true West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from the excellent 2021 vintage with impeccable balance and site expressiveness. The lifted aroma features pomegranate, raspberry, cranberry, clove, and tarragon. Fruit on the palate mirrors though begins to hint at darker cherry and plum notes.
There is a redwood and cedar frame to the fruit and a ras el hanout spice note peeks in and out (if you don’t know this spice blend, I recommend you go and sniff it out. It is excellent with chicken and pork.) This is a harmonious, elegant Pinot noir and not a juicy bruiser. The weight on the palate is medium and the acidity is mouth-watering though not aggressive. The tell-tale Peay Pinot Noir aromas of dried pine needle, jasmine tea, and earth linger in the after-taste. This wine offers charm, complexity, and value.
"The high toned nose is captivating with raspberry/strawberry notes mingled with deeper anise and tea notes. The mouth feel is round, though precise, with a medium length finish brought into focus by refreshing acidity." - winemaker's notes
"The 2021 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a very pretty wine in this range. Crushed red berry fruit, flowers and spice are nicely lifted in this bright, aromatic Pinot Noir. There's lovely transparency and tons of class, not to mention a good bit of nerve. This Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, all from estate vineyards in the West Sonoma Coast, is a delight." - 89 points, Vinous Media
Pairs well with takeout food. Think Burgers, Tacos, Steak Sandwiches, or a Turkey Leg. Also excellent with Duck, Game Birds, and Savory Stews.
