Champagne Thierry Fournier - Réserve Extra Brut NV
Vallée de la Marne, Champagne, France
About this Wine
The Fournier family began making wine in the 1930s with the purchase of three-quarters of a hectare of vines. This was in Festigny, a small village on the left bank of the Marne in the secluded Flagot Valley, long celebrated as a cradle in Champagne for Pinot Meunier.
Little changed until Thierry joined his grandfather on the domaine in 1983. With Grandpa’s encouragement, Thierry began the Cuvée Réserve. Wasting no time, he also began to look for more vines, for he was a young man who wanted to make great Champagne from his own vines. In the years that followed, the Cuvée Réserve became the Fournier flagship and the vineyard surface grew from 1.9 to just over 37 acres.
"The bouquet wafts from the glass in a complex constellation of apple, white peach, fresh-baked bread, chalky soil tones, a touch of hazelnut and a lovely topnote of meunier floral tones. On the palate the wine is crisp, focused and full-bodied, with a lovely core of fruit, fine balance and grip, good soil signature, elegant mousse and a long, poised and complex finish. The extended aging on its fine lees shows very nicely here, as this wine is drinking with generosity today!" - 92 points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar
"With a high proportion of Meunier in the blend, this Champagne is ripe and soft. It has a fine, vibrant texture, its acidity is balanced by the wine's dosage. Drink this comfort wine now." - 91 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast
The perfect Aperitif or a toast with friends, also goes well with Caviar, Shellfish, Crab, Lobster, Rich Fish, and Mild & Soft Cheeses.
