Domaine Orion - Chablis (2022)

About the wine
Finally available in the United States, Domaine Orion is created by one of the most exciting young Chablis producers to emerge in years. Winemaker Léa Schaller was working in the music business in Paris when her father decided to retire from the family farm in the countryside village of Préhy due to health reasons. For generations her family sold the grapes from their 10 hectares of vineyards in the Chablis AOC, but Léa wanted to take the operation to the next level. She quit the music business and focused on earning a degree in viticultural and winemaking. From there she took out a loan to build a small winery down the street from Préhy's famous church, and sketched out a plan to begin making her own wines starting with their 2019 harvest. She named the domaine after a Metallica song, and the label was designed after a tattoo on her arm that is an homage to the Schaller name, which is a referral to the village bell-ringer who rang in the close of the day and the coming of owls.
2019 was their first year of production, with only 1,000 bottles were produced. Léa and her small team have ramped up production since then, and were able to produce 1,650 cases for the 2022 vintage. This is micro-estate, boutique winemaking at its very best!
The result is a classic, old-school, leaner version of Chablis. The wine has a pristine clarity of its fruit which marries Chablis' native pretrichor-mineral with some beautiful richness and panache. Think mineral notes, freshening acidity, and ripe, succulent fruit. A truly impressive debut!
Pairs well with Rich Mild and Soft Cheeses, Pork, Poultry, Rich Fish, and Shellfish.
The Domaine Orion - Chablis (2022) wine is currently part of the Weekend Staycay | Mixed-Hue Wine Collection offered exclusively by WyneTyme.
