Pavillon de Chavannes - Côte de Brouilly 'Cuvée des Ambassades' (2022)
France / Burgundy / Beaujolais
About the wine
This is a very old school Beaujolais in the best sense: beautiful garnet color, beguiling aromatics, and a burst of refreshment in the mouth—and that burst is a savory, mineral, toothsome thing because of the domaine’s high elevations and because of Brouilly’s meager volcanic soils. Some crus emphasize soil notes, others give fruit, but only good Côte de Brouilly gives stone in the flavor. The name comes from the fact that the the wine is purchased by the Quai d'Orsay to be used in French embassies around the world. You can't get more French than that!
"Cuvée des Ambassades” is a beautiful bottle of young Côte de Brouilly. The wine is one of the lower octane versions of the vintage, coming in listed at 12.5 percent octane, but showing off beautifully ripe fruit and gorgeous soil transparency. The bouquet hops from the glass in a blend of cherries, red plums, pomegranate, gamebird, a touch of fresh thyme, bonfire, peonies and a beautifully complex foundation of soil. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with fine soil signature, a lovely core of fruit, modest tannins and excellent length and grip on the poised and beautifully balanced finish. This has the depth and backend stuffing to age beautifully, but this is one 2022 Cru that will not demand extended time in the cellar before it starts to drink beautifully! 2024-2055." - 93 points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar
"Light brilliant red. Mineral- and spice-tinged aromas of fresh red berries and candied flowers are complicated by hints of blood orange and star anise. Pure and energetic on the palate, offering bitter cherry, raspberry and spicecake flavors underscored by smoky mineral and lavender flourishes. Silky tannins come up slowly on a sappy, penetrating finish that lingers with impressive, appealingly floral- and mineral-tinged persistence." - 93 points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous
Pairs well with Chicken, Duck, Turkey, Veal, Pork, Beef Carpaccio, Cured Meats, and Mushrooms
